Silent places

1999–2004

On his return from a nine month trip to Aotearoa New Zealand, Charles began working on a series of watercolour paintings of his grandfather, A. L. Clayton, and also of the house he lived in Totara Street, Nelson. He also worked on more figurative paintings of friends, his parents, and still life studies. These would influence his later direction after moving to Spain in 2003.
